Benjamin turns 5 on New Years Eve. Such a good and bad time to have a birthday! This year, we decided to invite some Kindy friends to his party so had it a little earlier than usual. It started simple enough…. a few dinosaurs…. some sand, then all of a sudden we had full excavation sites complete with individual tepee tents, jungle, and 1.5m dinosaurs!! The kids were archaeologists, and as their ‘goodie bag’ my very talented mum made work belts that we filled with binoculars, shovels, mini paint brushes and excavation tools. The kids then had to go on their hunt for fossils. Afterwards we made real erupting volcano’s with play dough. This was the highlight for some kids as the bicarb mixed with red food colouring, water and vinegar exploded out of the top!
Food was bacon and egg burgers for the adults and pancakes for the kids with Triceratop nuggets (organic popcorn chicken), Terradactle wings (honey soy chicken drumets), brontosaurus eggs (mini drops from Cadbury), edible rocks (from most good candy stores) and bowls of fresh fruit.
All the kids had a lovely, somewhat loud and very, very hot time! More photos to come soon (as soon as I can collect them from the guests!)
Happy Birthday my little man!
The invitations were hand delivered passports complete with foreign postage stamps. The crumpled paper and string really helped set the feel for the day.
